Glycolic Acid For Reducing Fine Lines And Wrinkles

More and more products are coming onto the market and touting themselves as ‘natural products’ and glycolic acid is another of the many products that can be classified as just that. Since it is actually made from sugar cane, it really does fall into this category even though the name might make it sound like it is anything but natural.

While glycolic acid may be considered a natural product, it is something that you must be very careful about when applying it to skin. When you consider that glycolic acid is also used in rust removal and degreaser products, you can see where this concern comes into play. In fact, any item that is made with more than a 10% content of glycolic acid is considered to be hazardous material.

In skin care, glycolic acid is recognized as a very popular exfoliating agent and is used in many products for this purpose. You will normally find this as an active agent in creams or gels. When it is applied to the skin, it will work its way through the top layers of your skin and will actually separate the dead skin from the other layers of skin and the other components of the cream or gel will remove the dead flakes leaving you with healthier and smoother skin after this dead skin has been washed away.

Users of products that have glycolic acid need to be aware of what can happen to their skin after these treatments as their skin is much more likely to be overly sensitive to sun exposure. They will have to be particularly careful when experiencing prolonged exposure to the sun or may want to stay away from direct sun exposure all together.

If you are using a chemical peel that features glycolic acid, your skin will already look like it has gone through a severe sun burn and will absolutely have to be out of direct sunlight until it heals. After the treatment, you will have discoloration and what may appear to be an unsightly appearance, but with time this will heal. Those that are proponents of glycolic acid are in agreement that the mild discomfort and appearance problems are all worth enduring for that short time in order to get the benefits that glycolic acid gives you.

Will glycolic acid remove years off of your appearance? There are plenty of people that will tell you just that. Ultimately, you are going to have to be the one to decide to what level you want to use this product, but the popularity of it almost speaks for itself in regards to its benefits as a skin care treatment.
